These sculptural reliefs were sculpted and created out of clay then glazed and fired in a kiln. My series of sculptural reliefs focus on the relationship between a parent and child as well as exploring various intergenerational relationship dynamics such as those between a grandparent and grandchild.
I felt I needed to create them as a series themed on parent and child relationships in honour of my father who had been battling with Alzheimer’s at the time. My principal aim was to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Charity as a way of giving back.
Of my many sculptural reliefs, this little child climbing the stairs was originally created for the Alzheimer's Society to help draw upon remembering life's milestones. Moreover, the 'popping out' of this little four-dimensional child brings to light the coming of age and growth that children experience.
